Satrap originally referred to provincial governors in the ancient Persian Empire. These officials were appointed by the king and were responsible for governing specific regions of the empire. The term has also been used more broadly to refer to any subordinate ruler or local governor who exercises authority on behalf of a higher power, especially in a decentralized or hierarchical political system. In contemporary usage, it might be applied metaphorically to describe someone who exercises authority over a specific domain or territory within a larger organization or structure.

History of Persian rule over the three islands
The historical accounts of the Greeks and Romans and pre-Islamic travelogues show that the inhabitants of all the coasts and islands of the Gulf were Persians. The Achaemenid documents and inscriptions discovered on Kharg Island are an example of these cases. The Kharg cuneiform inscription measuring 20 x 30 centimeters is written on the island's native coral stone, and the crown engraved on it indicates the effective rule and presence of the Persian empire over these islands. This unique and unparalleled inscription was accidentally found in 2007 during the asphalting and construction of a road on Kharg Island.
