1000yrs Earings

This image shows a collection of approximately 1,000-year-old gold earrings and pendants from post-Tazyan Iran. The ornaments are exquisitely crafted from pure gold using the filigree technique. At the center of each piece are two interlocking birds with a latticed, decorative body, a common symbol of love, loyalty, or fertility in Iranian art. The decorative elements surrounding the earrings and pendants include small hemispheres and spheres that give them additional dimension, rhythm, and visual beauty.

These types of ornaments were often worn by women of aristocratic or wealthy families, and in addition to being beautiful, they were considered a sign of social status. The use of a pair of birds, delicately facing each other, reflects the artist’s deep understanding of symbolism and aesthetics. Today, this unique collection is kept at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and alongside other treasures of Iranian metalwork, it showcases the splendor and elegance of ancient Iranian goldsmithing.
