Iranian weightlifters Hajar Moeini and Maryam Kashtkar made history for women’s weightlifting in Iran by breaking national youth and junior records and securing medals at the Asian Championships.
Competing in the women’s 61kg youth category, Moeini lifted 90kg in the snatch to win the silver medal. Her performance improved the previous Iranian youth record by 14kg — a record that had been set only minutes earlier by Yalda Sharifi.
The record-breaking performances continued in the junior competition, where Maryam Kashtkar lifted 94kg in the 61kg category to claim the bronze medal. Her lift increased the Iranian junior record by 18kg.
The achievements of Moeini and Kashtkar marked a landmark day for women’s weightlifting in Iran, with both young athletes combining medal-winning performances with major national records on the Asian stage.
